Jupiter is named after the Roman father of the gods.  Jupiter was also known as the god of fun, and represents tin, green, triangle, 8, and Thursday.  The English name for Jupiter came from Thor god of thunder, and the greek name was Zeus, which is the Greek god of thunder. Chinese called it their Year Star as their calender cycle was based on a Jupiter year of about 12 years.
