Astronomy is the study of planets, stars, and galaxies. It is seperated into two important categories such as astrometry and astrophysics.   Astrometry is a branch of Astronomy that deals with the locations, distances and movements of stars, and other astronomical objects.  Astrophysics is a branch of astronomy that focuses on the physics of the universe, such as physical properties. These properties contain luminsity, density, temperature, and chemical composition of celestial objects.

Astronomy was first started when Aristarchus of Samos proclaimed that the movements of the planets could be clarified by supposing that all the planets in our Solar System orbit the sun.  However his theory was denied by many people until Nicholas Corpernicus renewed the Heliocentric( meaning the sun is in the center) model in the 16th century. Other contibuters in helping solve the mysteries of space were Galilieo Galilei, who founded the four brightest moons of Jupieter and their orbits. These discoveries are what led to the knowledge about our solar system that we know today.
