Earth is the only planet that doesn' have a Greek or Roman name. "Earth" is an old English and German word.  Maps of the entire planet weren't discovered until the Twentieth century.

Earth began as a giant and hot sea of molten rock. The fast space rock collisions are what would increase the heat on Earth, but when they began stopping, the Earth cooled down and formed a thin crust on its surface.  The planet kept on cooling down and the water vapor started to escape, soon it had spread into the Earth's early atmosphere.  The water vapor formed clouds and the heavy rains caused the oceans to form.
